“It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” -Patrick Henry

To be honest, when I woke up this morning I was a little discouraged – for America. Yes, I am *so grateful* for the freedom that we possess, and for the men and women who fought to make that possible. And yet this freedom is being thrown away more and more with each passing day. Our rights are being trampled upon – decisions that are mine and yours to make, before God for self and family. What we are allowed to say, how we are to raise our children … whether or not we need God, should acknowledge God, or are allowed to express our love for God publicly.

“The further we drift from the authority of and obedience to God’s Word in this nation, the less freedom and independence we will possess.” – Tim Chaffey

I was blessed and challenged by this post from the Answers in Genesis blog! Let us remember that while we celebrate our freedom today, that freedom is attributed to our dependence upon God! Our founding fathers recognized and understood the importance of this when they built our nation upon Christ and the principles of His Word.

“The more we reject God’s authority as a nation, the less godly we will become as a people, and the more laws will be required to govern our sinful behavior” – Tim Chaffey

But there is hope! Always hope in Christ Jesus – praise God that He is sovereign over all, and in the end He makes all things beautiful for His glory! He is gentle and patient with us His children, and He asks us to humble ourselves, to recognize our sinfulness, and to turn to Him in repentance.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” – 2 Chronicles 7:14

Today I am grateful. So very grateful for the freedom that I and my family can enjoy – but also reminded of how very important it is to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus Christ, in whom we have our true freedom. And let us be faithful to pray for our nation, and for our leaders in authority.

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom He hath chosen for His own inheritance.” – Psalm 33:12

Hope your day is blessed!! 🙂

P.S. Happy 19th birthday to my little sis Elisabeth {in heaven}. ❤
