Real Tea

I have a friend that drinks skim milk. I love to tease him constantly about how his milk isn’t REAL … mine is REAL milk because it’s whole and raw. The way milk is supposed to be. Right out of the cow. 😉

{Happily, I think we’re slowly indoctrinating him in the right direction … it’s a good sign when someone starts voluntarily asking for the good stuff, right? 😉 }

I think a lot of people get turned off by the whole concept of some ideas in life, because they’re getting the watered down, artificial, modified, version, not the REAL stuff.

It took me a while to approve of tea. Seriously, have you ever dissected a tea bag from your local grocery store? I mean, they’re overpriced pea-sized portions of stale plants … which resemble the flavor of what I imagine hay tastes like. 😛 Okay okay, perhaps it’s not quite that bad if you choose the right flavors.

But then one day I harvested an armload of fresh Peppermint from my herb garden and … WOW. Talk about fresh and potent. Peoples, I think I discovered what peppermint tea is supposed to taste like, and I love! ❤

Interesting side note – there are four main types of tea: green tea, black tea, oolong tea and white tea. ALL tea comes from the same plant! The specific variety of tea plant and the way the leaves are processed after harvesting determine the type of tea that is created. So there you have it!

To be honest, I don’t work much with actual tea plants when I prepare my blends. I’m the type of gal that likes flowers, fruits, and roots floating in my teas. Ya, good stuff! 🙂 You’ll see a few teas around the holidays that start with a base of black {Spiced Chai Tea} and red rooibos {Creamy Pumpkin Pie Tea} leaves but otherwise I’m working with all sorts of flavors and ingredients to make fabulous concoctions that target wellness, energy, sleep, pregnancy, women’s health, digestive issues … and so much more.

In today’s post I want to share a quick overview of my tea blends. People often ask me what the different blends taste like, what they’re good for, which ones are pleasant tasting vs. medicinal, if they’re safe for children … and the list goes on.

Other FAQ About Our Blends …

1. Are all your blends organic?

Quality and purity are very important to me, at the top of my list in fact. Through trial and error I learned that there’s a lot to learn about maintaining high standards of quality for a growing product line. I discovered that titles and certifications aren’t always as important as we make them out to be – and in fact can be very misleading and deceptive.

All of my ingredients are either certified organic, wildcrafted {harvested from the wild which greatly reduces their risk of being contaminated}, or above and beyond the required standards for an organic certification. I strive for the very best that is out there which sometimes mean I’m sourcing from a trusted family farm that hasn’t bothered to go through the extensive process of getting certified {yet cares more about their quality standards than many certified farms do}. A few of the herbs in my tea blends also come from my own organic herb garden.

2. Are your teas safe for children?

Yes! Our teas are created from high quality plant ingredients – fruits, leaves, roots, flowers and spices.

3. Are your teas safe during pregnancy?

In general, yes! You’ll find that most of the ingredients listed in our teas are common herbs, fruits, and spices that you’ll be familiar with. I do recommend that you check with your doctor or midwife just to be sure the ingredients are approved for you specifically. There are a few herbs that should be avoided during pregnancy for best results.

4. Where do you get your recipes from?

I create my own blends from scratch, using recipes that I’ve concocted myself and tested with family and friends. If we don’t approve of it, I’m not passing it along. 🙂

5. How do you prepare your loose leaf tea?

My tea blends come with basic instructions listed on the labels. I usually measure about 1/2 tablespoon of leaves per 8 oz hot water. We love an infuser or french press for preparing on the go or for several tea drinkers. As a general rule, steep for at least 15-20 minutes to get a nice potent flavor, before straining off your leaves. In the case of using either of these accessories I mentioned, you’ll save yourself the trouble of having to strain off the leaves. So easy!

Add some honey, fresh lemon juice, cinnamon, sugar, or whatever else you like … voila! ❤

6. How many servings does a bag of tea contain?

A sample sized bag will provide you with at least 6-8 servings. A regular sized bag should average at least 40.

7. Which teas are the best flavor-wise, besides the health benefits?

Mint Medley and Tropical Hibiscus are the 2 most popular that come to mind. These are excellent as hot teas, or as sweet cold teas. All of our blends have pleasant flavors that are at the least very tolerable! We’ve not had any complaints yet – only great feedback! 😉

8. Do you offer bulk discounts?

Yes! We now offer individual bags as well as sets of 4 at a discount. This is true for most of our product line.
